Family traditions are important | Why We Share Ours

Family History Food is a website run by me, Meredith Eby: a history graduate, lover of family history, and eater of food. I have been tracing my family history for eight years, and love sharing stories, pictures, and recipes from my own family.

In San Diego working on our family history
My mom and I on vacation in San Diego.

I have inherited many vintage cookbooks and old recipes, and along with my own family’s traditional recipes, have a treasury of great family meals and tasty desserts, and everything in between!

My maternal grandmother loved genealogy and spent years tracing our family history. Although I do not have her research, my mom remembers pieces of it, and we have both worked to answer questions about our family’s past.

my grandparents were first- generation Americans, whose families brought unique traditions and recipes.
My siblings and I with my maternal grandparents, William and Pauline McCallum.

My dad was also proud of his ancestry. He used to keep a wooden file cabinet with Eby ancestry information in his closet, including a chart tracing himself and brother directly from Theodorus Eby, the first in our family to come to the United States.

My dad spread his love of family history and food to his children.

This site will be a place for tips and tricks on preserving family history, focusing on food. I will share recipes (I have boxes and boxes from my grandma!) as well. Hopefully, readers will take away ideas on how to preserve their own family history, and some tasty recipes as well!
